![]() ![]() I started out the year really strong with two Joe Abercrombie books, Before They Are Hanged and The Last Argument of Kings. I’m at 33 for the year! I tend to read 10-11 books a month and have been on par with that although my page count may be much lower due to shorter books□ Have you already found a book you think might be a 2023 favourite? I’m just trying to slow down and enjoy the spring but it’s still freezing out.Īnyway, I’ve seen the Quarter Year Crisis book tag floating around a lot this month and it’s a great tag, so I’m jumping in! I’m also just going to tag “anyone who sees this” □ Let’s hope the second half of the year stays strong! So it’s not a member but, they are my favorite book community ♥️ Ok this one is tough, but as a whole I’m going to say the entire Angry Robot author community because they share the hell out of each other’s works and positive posts, many that I’ve interviewed still interact with me, and the publicist told me about all the author events happening while I was in London. What books do you need to read by the end of the year? I haven’t actually bought any other physical books this year outside of my UK haul, so limited choices but these old Black Company paperbacks are cool as heckġ3. Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year Honorable mentions: The Spirit Ring by Lois McMaster Bujold, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, and The Rush’s Echo by Ginger Smith 12. There’s an awkward octopus and what else do you need to know □ I was going to pick a book where the villagers shunned people who kept spawning kids without being able to support them, but I’d like to not go to hell today. The Last Gifts of the Universe by Rory August hit me real hard with the themes of parental loss, grieving, and probably my favorite new character if I’m being honest too: Pumpkin the cat Haha you knew this one was coming somewhere. ![]() Many of my best reads are continuing series so they aren’t new □♀️ 10. I’ve got to be honest that no one is really sticking out to me. N/A, I’m forever and ever loyal to my fallen Green Rider 9. JDL Rosell! This one had to come in somewhere, and in a year of finishing series and reading backlogs, Rosell has been a bright spot among my new author discoveries Honorable mention: Rory August’s The Last Gifts of the Universe. I was not expecting to love this book so much! The Spirit Ring by Lois McMaster Bujold is one of my favorites of the year so far Honorable mention: Stella Maris and The Passenger by Cormac McCarthy 6. I passionately hated the entire Splintered series by AG Howard, very sad. It would be my number one if Green Rider wasn’t contending □ 5. Honorable mention: Down Below Beyond by TA Bruno. I probably will not get the request but I’m checking my email multiple times a day with my fingers crossed It just hit NetGalley and I haven’t been approved yet. The Green Rider novella, The Spirit of the Wood by Kristen Britain. Most anticipated release for the second half of the year: ![]() I suppose I was interested in The Curator by Owen King, until it absolutely flopped ratings wise and when an average rating is that low, I believe it□♀️ 4. Ummm… This one is tough since I haven’t been interested in a lot of new releases this year. A new release you haven’t read yet but want to Honorable mentions: Deadlock by James Byrne, Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie, and A Queen’s Command by JDL Rosell 3. This series could also be applicable in the “most beautiful books you’ve purchased” area because, well, the covers are beyond gorgeous It’s a book that sneaks up on you and is fresh in my mind. ![]() Honorable mentions: Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie, and The Spirit Ring by Lois McMaster Bujold 2. Also applicable to the “Best sequel” question This is just an incredibly phenomenal fantasy and I love it. This one might come as a surprise but I think I’m going to give it to Shorefall by Robert Jackson Bennett. The best book you’ve read so far in 2023: I just spent my coffee time watching old BookTube videos from “that era” and man, some of those people were funny! I screen shotted the original 2016 questionnaire so, if it’s changed since then, my bad! All credit to the original tagįirst off I just want to say that I’ve read 63 books in 2023 so far, so I’m about on par with my usual and have a decent pool to pull from! I’m only going to use an author or series once, and it’s hard because many books were applicable to many categories!ġ. It’s probably the most prevalent tag in the book community.
